Cheap Solar Panels

August 9th, 2009

I think it goes without saying that most of us with an interest in solar energy would love to cover our roof with solar panels and live completely off the grid.

What’s stopping us?

As with many other things, it comes down to cost.  We want solar energy but we also want cheap solar panels.  That doesn’t make us “cheap” by nature, we just need to get some sort of return on our investment.

Prices are coming down with an increase in manufacturing costs, so in the interest of updating you on solar panel prices, here’s the best I can find for cheap solar panels:

Firstly for portable use, there’s the Sunsei 25006 SE-500 7.5-Watt 15-Volt Solar Panel Battery Charger / Maintainer at less than $80 from Amazon.

For fixed use on a building, there isn’t much around that I can find that can be described as cheap, so I’m going to suggest you consider building your own arrays.  In this case I recommend Layman’s Guide to Solar Panel Assembly (Renewable Series). DIY for cheap solar panels is definately the way to go in my opinion.
